MS Math Retake Procedure
Students may only retake test-based Criterion A Unit Assessment. If the Criterion A is part of a project, a retake may not be given.
If a student would like to request a retake, they must setup a meeting with their teacher within two weeks of receiving the grade. This meeting may not happen during the class period.
During the meeting, students are expected to lead the meeting and respectfully justify why they deserve a retake. Students must bring their Math binder/notebook, including the Unit Assessment.
Students must submit corrections to their Unit Assessment before scheduling the retake. This will be discussed during the meeting.
If students are allowed a retake, it will take place about one week from the meeting during a Saturday Detention.
The highest level of achievement through the retake process will be recorded in the gradebook.
Unit Assessment Correction Procedure
You have one week to complete corrections. The week begins on the day that you meet with your teacher to request a retake. Your corrections will determine your eligibility to retake a Unit Assessment. You may get help from your classmates, parents, tutors, or teacher (please make an appointment) to complete your corrections. However, make sure you understand your errors enough to explain them clearly.
You must do the following on a separate sheet of paper for each incorrect question or problem on the Unit Assessment:
1. Number the problem/question and rewrite it.
2. Write at least two complete sentences explaining what your error was and what you need to do to correct it. Write enough to prove that you understand it now.
3. Show all work to correct the problem or question and include the right answer.
Example Sentences:
“I made a mistake with exponent rules in the original expression. I should have added the exponents, but instead I multiplied them. To fix this, I will have to use the product rule instead of the power rule.”
“My error was just a simple multiplication mistake. The volume for the cylinder that I found was twice as big as it should be because I accidentally multiplied the height and area of the base incorrectly. I wrote that 6x4 was 48. It was just a silly mistake. Next time, I will be more careful and check my work.”
